Crochet Santa Hat

'Tis the Season for Holiday crafting! With the lack of Holiday outfits from shopDisney, I knew that I had to find something to dress my nuiMOs. The sweaters above aren't made by me or Disney, they're $3 ornaments from Target! There are four to choose from and a little tricky to put on. You have to start one foot at a time and go slowly to get the rest. I may adjust them to make it easier in the future.

Anyway, onto the crochet patterns. That's right, I said patterns. There are two versions of the Santa hat. One is made with this thin yarn (I think it's used to lacework) that I've had lying around and the other is made with Red Heart yarn and has ear holes put right in so we don't lose Mickey or Minnie's ears. As per the norm, I'm in America so the abbreviations in the pattern are accordingly so; and I'm sharing these in good faith. Please don't use these for monetary gain.

 What You'll Need:

  • Red yarn (thin or regular)
  • Fluffy white yarn
  • Yarn darner (for thicker yarn)
  • Needle and white thread
  • Scissors
  • E Hook (3.50 mm) or G Hook (4.25 mm)
  • I Hook (5.50 mm) for fluffy yarn

Abbreviations:

  • MAR = magic adjustable ring
  • sc = single crochet
  • ch = ch
  • st = stitch
  • skp = skip
  • *...* = repeat pattern within as designated

THINNER YARN SANTA HAT:

HAT:  (3.50 mm hook)

Rnd 1: sc 4st into ring(4)

Rnd 2: sc around (4)

Rnd 3: *sc, inc* x2 (6)

Rnd 4: *sc 2 st, inc* x2 (8)

Rnd 5: *sc 3 st, inc* x2 (10)

Rnd 6: *sc 4 st, inc* x2 (12)

Rnd 7: *sc 5 st, inc* x2 (14)

Rnd 8: *sc 6 st, inc* x2 (16)

Rnd 17-18: sc around (36)

Rnd 19: *sc 5 st, inc* x6 (42)

Rnd 20-21: sc around (42) END

FLUFFY PARTS:

Using 5.50 mm hook ch as many times as need to go around the bottom of the hat. Cut and knot together. Then hand sew the fluffy trim with needle and thread.

Use fluffy yarn to make a pom-pom for the top. Attach to top.

Now you've made a cute hat for your nuiMOs. The next hat is going to show how to add ear holes. You can do the same thing to this pattern.

THICKER YARN CROCHET HAT W/ EAR HOLES:

Rnd 2: sc around (4)

Rnd 3: *sc, inc* x2 (6)

Rnd 4: *sc 2 st, inc* x2 (8)

Rnd 5: *sc 3 st, inc* x2 (10)

Rnd 6: *sc 4 st, inc* x2 (12)

Rnd 7: sc around (12)

Rnd 8: *sc, inc* x6 (18)

Rnd 9: sc around (18)

Rnd 10: *sc 2 st, inc* x6 (24)

Rnd 11: sc around (24)

Rnd 12: *sc 3 st, inc* x6 (30)

Rnd 13: sc around (30)

*The next round makes the ear holes.*

Rnd 14: sc 10 st, ch 4 skp 4 st, sc 6 st, ch 4 skp 4 st, sc 6 st (30)

Rnd 15: sc around (30) END

FLUFFY PARTS:

Using 5.50 mm hook ch as many times as need to go around the bottom of the hat. Cut and knot together. Then hand sew the fluffy trim with needle and thread.

Use fluffy yarn to make a pom-pom for the top. Attach to top.

Two cute version of the same hat! I personally like the feel and look of the thinner yarn, but seeing as I had no more of it I had to roll with the other yarn. Both look really cute on the nuiMOs and it should be fun with all the Holidays coming up.

If you see a mistake, be sure to let me know! I'd love to see your creations with my patterns, so leave a message or share with @disneynuimosdiy on Instagram. Have fun crafting!
