Couch and Chairs

Here's the beginning of the furniture I made for my nuiMOs house. I'm loosely calling these tutorials because I didn't take pictures during every single step. I should've but I thought some pictures were boring. So, I started with the living room furniture.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Foam Core Board
  • Cutters
  • Ruler
  • Hot Glue
  • Fabric
  • Bits of Foam
  • Bamboo Sticks
  • Optional: Batting

In the two pictures above I cut out several pieces: 3.25" x 8" (x4) and 3.25" x 2.25" (x4). I took two of each matching pieces and glued them together to get to four pieces. (You go from 8 to 4 in total.)

In these above photos I glued the four pieces I created to make the couch shape. When I did that I didn't like how thin the bottom was. I took the couch and added one big piece to the bottom

This is where the photos began to be sparse. I wasn't exactly sure where I should stop to take a picture at each point anyway. I would recommend if you want your couch to look more full to add some batting before moving onto the fabric part. I took pieces of fabric and covered the couch carefully. It's tricky and takes time, so just be patient. When I covered it I added the bamboo skewers to the bottom and a piece of felt that closely matched the color of the couch to give a more finished look.

I started the chairs very similar to the couch. I cut out this for one chair: 3.5" x 3" (x2), 2.5" x 2.5" (x4), and two bottoms. I say two bottoms because after I glued the sides and back pieces together, and then glued the arms on at an angle, I used the shape of the chair to get the right shape for the bottoms. Then you glued the bottoms on.

Again, there aren't many photos after this point. Like the couch, you can add on batting before the fabric to make it look more full. So I took my chosen fabric and carefully covered the chair. This time I didn't bother covering the seat because I wanted to do a cushion.

These final photos show how I covered the cushion and glued it to the chair. I then added the bamboo skewers and then covered the bottom with felt to give a more finished look.

Here are the couch and chairs in the finished living room! (Minus the pillows, rug, and flowers.) There's a TV and ottoman I completely forgot to take photos of. ^^; The ottoman is just a little box that had a lid. I covered the top in craft foam and the bottom with popsicle sticks. And I really wish I took pictures of the TV and it's stand. I used one half of a gift card box for the TV and covered it with a photo and craft foam after making sure the skewers were in place to keep it up. The bottom half is a box I made covered in craft foam and popsicle sticks.

I hope that despite the fact that I didn't include some photos that you are able to get an idea on how to make your own couch and chairs for your nuiMOs. Please share what you've created here or with @disneynuimosdiy on Instagram. Have fun crafting!
