Gathered Dress Tutorial

Image
Here's another tutorial based on the patterns that have been shared at this point. You start off by making a shirt and then add a skirt to the bottom to make the dress. Here's what you'll need: Fabric pieces: everything for a shirt and a rectangle piece 3.5" x 12" Velcro Thread Optional Embellishments       Follow the shirt tutorial all the way to hemming the collar.     Hem the bottom of the skirt/rectangle. This hem is double folded at about 1/4" in width.     Add whatever embellishments you want on the skirt at this point.     Now it's time to start the gathering process. You'll have to change your stitch length to 5 as shown in the first photo above. Then you'll sew two lines across the top edge 1/8" apart.     Use the two lines that were sewn to gather the fabric evenly. You'll have to make sure that the length of the skirt top matches the length of the shirt. Once you get to that point, sew across as shown above.   ...

Shirt Tutorial

The next tutorial is the shirt. You can find the pattern for this shirt with the patterns I shared before. You can use the regular and baggy patterns following this tutorial. This is probably the trickiest article of clothing to make. Adding the sleeves and the hem on the collar can cause sewing, but nothing has to be perfect so try not to stress. Here's what you'll need: Fabric pieces: one front, two back cut out mirror, two sleeve Velcro Thread         The first part to sew is the shoulders. Have the right sides touching making sure to line up the edges. The sew allowance is the width of the needle to the edge of the opening on the presser foot.     Now hem both of the sleeves with one fold about 1/8".     Now it's time for your first challenge: adding the sleeve. Layout the shirt pieces attached by the shoulders. The first photo shows where the sleeves should be inserted. Sew around carefully. If you have a couple of puckers, it's alright. Whe...

Hair Bow Tutorial

Next on the tutorial list is the hair bow. This is also available on the patterns I shared before. These are simple, yet difficult. The hardest part is getting the sewing machine going along the curves edges. Here's what you'll need: Fabric pieces - two bows, one strap 1.5"x3" 1/4" Elastic long enough to go around your nuiMOs head Thread Sewing Needle   The first thing to sew is the strap/middle part. Fold it so the two edges go towards the middle and then fold in half. Then sew along one edge. The end result is the last photo above.       The next step is to face the bow pieces with the right sides touching. The seam allowance is the same as the pants. It's the distance between the needle and the opening on the presser foot. This will be the difficult part if you're sewing with a machine. Just take it slow and you'll get around. Make sure to leave a part of the bottom not sewn.   Turn the bow right side out. You'll probably have to use a pen or ...

Elastic Pants Tutorial

Continuing on with tutorials next is pants. These can also be found with the patterns previously shared. In this tutorial I'm using the regular pants pattern, but you can do the same steps to make the baggy pants. Here's what you'll need: Fabric for four pieces of pants pattern 1/4" Elastic about 4.75" in length Thread Safety Pin  As an extra bonus for this tutorial, I chose a fabric that has a direction to it. If I cut some of the pattern pieces the wrong way, then I would have the patterns going in different directions. So if you do the same, then you have to make sure to do the same steps.     To begin, you'll have to cut out four pieces of fabric big enough for the pattern to fit on. Flip two of the pieces over on their long edges and put them underneath the other two pieces.     Now take two pieces and put it underneath the other pieces. Pin the pattern in place and cut. After cutting you should have four pieces that look like the third picture above. No...
